Professors weigh in on parenting books in The Conversation article

Arizona State University Sanford School lecturers Denise Bodman and Bethany Van Vleet collaborated to bring their expertise in parenting books to The Conversation. Their article, which was published on June 16, offered advice for picking out a quality, evidence-based parenting book to read and follow.

The professors shared five tips, saying it is important to consider who wrote the book and why they wrote it, whether they based it on scientific research, and whether it’s realistic.

They also note that parents should choose books that seem interesting to read, as it’s more difficult to finish or learn from a boring book. Lastly, they say the book needs to help parents feel motivated and hopeful rather than stressed out and doubtful.

“We believe that parents can become critical thinkers and choose the books that will be most appropriate for them,” they said.
