Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts –The Design School – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Environmental Design
Action Requested: The Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee recommends University Senate approval of a proposal submitted by the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – The Design School, for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Environmental Design
Rationale: The Design School in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts proposes to establish a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program with a major in Environmental Design to offer an integrated curriculum in environmental design primarily in a non-studio format. This undergraduate program is designed to create a deep awareness and knowledge of issues that influence the design of built environments and the design of artifacts. The program of study emphasizes general knowledge and design research in the areas of sustainability in environmental design; design innovation, technology and design strategies; as well as in the histories and theories of design.
