Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences- Hugh Downs School of Human Communication– for the establishment of an undergraduate certificate in Civil Communication
Action Requested: The Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee recommends University Senate approval of a proposal submitted by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – Hugh Down School of Human Communication - for the establishment of an undergraduate certificate in Civil Communication
Rationale: Students are provided specific training in dialogue based methods of civility, application of critical civil communication skills in public spheres, and civil and productive modes of argumentation. This specialization would provide students with the ability to recognize, competently practice, and facilitate the ever increasing demand for civil discourse in society and workplace organizations.
