Senate Motion #2016-06

Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee Steven Semken, Chair

Date of First Reading: August 31, 2015

Date of Second Reading:
September 28, 2015

Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – The Polytechnic School - for the disestablishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Air Traffic Management

Action Requested:
This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale:
Due to the changes in hiring for personnel in the Air Traffic Control segment of aviation, it will be more beneficial for students to have a BS in Aeronautical Management Technology, with a concentration in Air Traffic Management. Students in the current BS approached the department with concerns regarding the name of the degree only reflecting the Air Traffic Management portion of the curriculum. The faculty of the Air Traffic Management program met over the course of the summer and fall semester, and determined that this would be a beneficial change.
