Senate Motion #2016-64
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee, Steven Semken, Chair
Date of First Reading: April 25, 2016
Date of Second Reading: August 29, 2016
Title of Motion: Request from the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences - School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences - for the name change of an undergraduate degree – From: BS in Forensics– To: BS in Forensic Science
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: “Forensics” is used as a colloquialism instead of the name of a profession.
“Forensic Science” more accurately describes the field of study and major map content. Additionally, “forensics” is traditionally used to describe the field or oration and public speaking.
