Senate Motion #2017-20

Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee, Caroline Harrison, Chair

Date of First Reading:  October 31, 2016

Date of Second Reading: November 28, 2016

Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts -Dean’s Office – for the disestablishment of an undergraduate degree – BA in Design Studies

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: Without a home in a school, this program provides a less than ideal experience for students, and has no faculty who truly mentor or guide either the curriculum or the student population. Additionally, it is in direct competition with the BS Environmental Design, located in The Design School, which is a much more appropriate home for these students both in terms of curriculum and in terms of mentorship.
