Title of Motion: Request from the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MA in Narrative Studies

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

Rationale:  The Master of Arts degree program in Narrative Studies offered by the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts is a comprehensive program that explores narrative and storytelling across a range of cultures and historical periods. This MA program focuses on the structural, social, cultural, aesthetic, rhetorical and historical aspects of narrative and storytelling in texts, film and other media.

With an emphasis on teaching and research, the program includes electives to encourage students to pursue interdisciplinary inquiry. The degree culminates with a capstone course that primes graduates for critical and eloquent engagement with the world beyond the university.
