Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies - for the disestablishment of an undergraduate certificate – Southeast Asian Studies

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.  

Rationale: The certificate in Southeast Asian Studies duplicates what is offered by the certificate in Asian Studies; students can accomplish the same objectives and complete the same courses through the Asian Studies certificate, but the Asian Studies certificate offers even more course choices. In addition, both the Southeast Asian Studies certificate and the Asian Studies certificate have had low enrollment, so maintaining only one of these two certificates reduces the administrative efforts needed.
