Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics - for the name change of a graduate degree – from PhD in Sociological Inquiry – to PhD in Sociology

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

Rationale: The proposed name change better aligns with standards in the discipline, as well as Sociology PhD programs in our peer and aspirational institutions programs. We aim to offer a comprehensive sociological program rather than a specific sub-specialization as applied by the current name.
