Senate Motion #2019-36
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee, Lili Wang, Chair
Date of First Reading: February 25, 2019
Date of Second Reading: March 25, 2019
Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering –The Polytechnic School– for the establishment of a graduate degree– MS in Graphic Information Technology
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: This MS degree will replace the already existing MS Tech with a concentration in graphic information technology. MS Tech programs are not common for graduate programs in this field. As such, graduates will find better success and receive more relevant career opportunities with the MS in Graphic Information Technology degree. For example, the MS in Graphic Information Technology degree will prepare students for careers in internet and web development, motion graphics, quality control analysis, and usability and user experience, all of which provide data indicating that they are expected to grow rapidly (more than 15%) in the next several years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration.
