Senate Motion #2020-03
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee
Date of First Reading: September 9, 2019
Date of Second Reading: October 7, 2019
Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences – School of International Letters and Cultures - for the name change of a graduate degree - from: PhD in International Letters and Cultures - to: PhD in Comparative Culture and Language
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The renaming of the degree to Comparative Culture and Language will more appropriately reflect the conceptual structure and aspirations of the degree. This new name aligns with the current curriculum to attract students and increase enrollment in the program. The rationale is 1) to better reflect the content of the degree and the career goals and opportunities of its students; and 2) to be in line with similar programs in the U.S. and abroad.
