Senate Motion #2020-12
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee
Date of First Reading: October 7, 2019
Date of Second Reading: November 4, 2019
Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment – for the name change of a graduate degree – from: MS in Construction Management – to: MS in Construction Management and Technology
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: ASU's Del E. Webb School of Construction, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, is changing its MS degree program name to Construction Management and Technology. The addition of Technology to the degree name keeps pace with the increasing technological advancements in the field. The curriculum has changed to keep pace with the evolving construction industry that has seen a growth in technologies such as building information modeling and augmented reality, software for controlling projects, and sustainable construction materials. The most recent changes have added courses in Construction Technology, Project Controls, and Sustainable Construction. This change also positions the Del E. Webb School of Construction well for the direction the industry is going with automation, robotics, and machine learning.
