2020-47
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee
Date of First Reading: February 3, 2020
Date of Second Reading: March 2, 2020
Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering – for the change of academic organization code - PhD in Biological Design GCBDSPHD - CBIOENG (Bioengineering) – to CMULTISCI (School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The Biological Design PhD program is highly interdisciplinary involving faculty and PhD students who perform research in biohealth, bio-energy, and bio-environmental areas. In contrast to School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (SBHSE) which primarily focuses on bio-health research, School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) has a much broader portfolio, which covers all research areas in the Biological Design PhD program. The broader scope in research will enable the program to be more inclusive and more importantly, promote more interdisciplinary research collaboration and student training.
