2020-57
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee
Date of First Reading: March 2, 2020
Date of Second Reading: March 30, 2020
Title of Motion: Request from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College – Educational Leadership and Innovation – for the name change of a graduate certificate – from: English as a Second Language – to: Educating Multilingual Learners
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The changed title will (a) more clearly signal a focus on preparing program graduates to educate bilingual and multilingual learners in a pre K-12 and community education context; (b) distinguish the program form the MTESOL degree offered by The College; and (c) eliminate confusion some RFT leads have, thinking that the program will teach them English.
