Title of Motion: Request from the Office of the University Provost – for the establishment of a new academic unit – College of Global Futures

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

Rationale: ASU is taking the next step in leading academia in studies of the future of our planet. The underpinning competencies that have to be researched and taught are: understanding of transformation processes, innovation for change from its unsustainable to a sustainable trajectory of planet Earth and its population; and understanding, prediction, and modification of complex systems. The college will advance these fields through the combined capacity of the School of Sustainability, the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, and the School of Complex Adaptive Systems.
