Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – to merge and establish an academic unit – Establish: The New American Film School – Merge: School of Music & School of Film, Dance and Theatre – to: School of Music, Dance and Theatre

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is beingpresented to the Senate for review and voting decision.  

Rationale: Two existing units of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts will be reorganized into two new units. The School of Film, Dance and Theatre (existing) and the School of Music (existing) into The New American Film School (new) and the School of Music, Dance and Theatre (new). The existing units affected are the current School of Film, Dance and Theatre and the current School of Music, which are two of six units (five schools and the Art Museum) in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Film will separate from Dance to form a single school.
