Motion Introduced by:  Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee,

Date of First Reading: September 21, 2020

Date of Second Reading: October 26, 2020

Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment - for the disestablishment of graduate degree – MSE in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering is currently not accepting applications. The School wishes to disestablish the program and focus efforts in the Master of Science (MS) in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering program, which affords students the option to complete a thesis, applied project or master's final written comprehensive exam to graduate. Some students had a negative view of the MSE degree as compared to the MS degree and other students found the existence of both an MS and an MSE degree confusing.
