2021-10
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee,
Date of First Reading: November 23, 2020
Date of Second Reading: February 1, 2021
Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences –School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies - for the disestablishment of an undergraduate certificate – Medieval and Renaissance Studies
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: It was determined that the current state of the certificates is very narrowed (language focused), and alienates many students interested in medieval and renaissance studies who are not focusing on language-for example, students of medieval and early modern art history, English literature, etc. Continually, many of the core class requirements are simply not offered on a consistent enough basis to guarantee a student will be able to take it during their time at ASU.
