Motion Introduced by:  Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee

Date of First Reading:    February 1, 2021

Date of Second Reading: March 1, 2021

Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Life Sciences – for the transfer of an undergraduate degree – BS in Neuroscience – from: the School of Life Sciences – to: the Department of Psychology

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: Neuroscience is inherently an interdisciplinary degree, and neuroscientists exist in a variety of departments and schools at ASU. A interdisciplinary team reviewed the existing, concurrent Neuroscience major and recommended that the redesigned stand-alone major, with both on-ground and online options, would be best managed by the Dept. of Psychology, with courses taught from units across the university, as well as new neuroscience courses in multiple modalities that will incorporate best practices in delivering neuroscience curricula and take advantage of the rapid advances in the field.
