Motion Introduced by:  Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee,

Date of First Reading:    March 29, 2021

Date of Second Reading: April 26, 2021

Title of Motion: Request from the College of Health Solutions – for the name change of a graduate degree – from: MS in Exercise and Wellness – to: MS in Physical Activity and Health

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: The name change from Exercise and Wellness to Physical Activity and Health is a shift away from the broad "wellness" terminology. It better differentiates the movement science programs within the college and more clearly defines graduate pathways for non-clinical health and fitness undergraduates. The program offers several focus areas of study, the most popular of which, (physical activity and health promotion) is the basis for the name change. The fitness and conditioning focus area is concurrently being proposed as a separate, standalone MS in Strength and Conditioning.
