Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – to change the name of an existing academic unit – from: Schools of Computing, Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering – to: School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: This renamed school is a part of the reorganization of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering which also includes: * the creation of a new school, School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks.
The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) is proposing the renaming of the School of Computing Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering to the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence. The renaming is one part of FSE’s evolution towards global leadership in engineering education and research at scale. Further, the proposed renaming is also timely in that it aligns with the New Economy Initiative being advanced for state support, though irrespective of funding outcomes at the state level has led to a framework for continued innovation and growth of the Fulton Schools.
