Title of Motion: Request from Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – School of Arts, Media and Engineering – for the name change of a graduate degree – From: MS in Digital Culture – to the MS in Media Arts and Sciences.

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

Rationale: Based on our EMSI research and in particular our discussions with unit-specific corporate partners, "Media Arts and Sciences" provides a clearer understanding for potential employers and resumes/CVs. Although a broad categorization, potential employers indicated that they understood "Media Arts and Sciences" whereas "digital culture" was too opaque. Graduates of this program go on to work in programming, media creation, web development, 3D design, game interaction design, and enroll in PhD programs.
