Title of Motion: Request from Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks – for the establishment of a graduate degree – PhD in Manufacturing Engineering
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The PhD in manufacturing engineering is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully meet the most difficult challenges of modern manufacturing industries on a global scale. The program will involve faculty and industry members together with a hands-on philosophy to education and research, that will provide students with various career development opportunities (e.g., internships and exchange experiences). With the PhD degree, graduates will typically seek research-oriented academic appointments or industrial research and development positions.
