Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – School of Music, Dance and Theatre – for the establishment of undergraduate certificate – Vocal Pedagogy

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

Rationale: The vocal pedagogy certificate program provides opportunities for upper-level undergraduates or nondegree-seeking graduate students --- current or future singing teachers and choral directors --- who wish to cultivate and further the development of their teaching skills and knowledge of the field of vocal pedagogy. This is a fifteen-credit hour certificate program including a set of core courses in pedagogy and applied voice totaling eight credit hours, elective course offerings in related disciplines, and a teaching practicum.
