Title of Motion: Request from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Life Sciences – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MS in Computational Life Sciences

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: The computational life sciences MS program introduces students to a burgeoning new field. Huge leaps in processing technologies have thrown open the doors for new research techniques and exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, focusing heavily here on genomics data generation, analysis, and interpretation. Students are introduced to a suite of statistical tools and computational approaches that enable them to uncover correlations, glean new understanding, and help solve scientific problems.
