Title of Motion: Request from Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions – School of Community Resources and Development – for the establishment of an undergraduate certificate – Recreational Therapy
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: Students enrolled in the therapeutic recreation certificate program gain knowledge and requisite competencies to lead recreation-based therapeutic programs as a strategy to improve individual and community health. Through curriculum foundational to the field, students learn the systematic process of conducting assessments, developing service plans, implementing therapeutic interventions, evaluating, and documenting outcomes of care.
