2023-67
Motion Introduced by: UAC
Date of First Reading: April 24, 2023
Date of Second Reading: August 28, 2023
Title of Motion: Clarifying Full-time Status for Senators, Officers, and Grievance Committee Members
Action Required: Amend ACD 112-01 Senate Constitution and Bylaws
Rationale:
Given the importance of faculty leadership position, faculty who hold such leadership positions should have full-time status. Since different units in the university are not unanimous in how they define this status, these amendments clarify that definition. This does not affect membership in the Academic Assembly or the definitions which different units use in determining faculty relationship. The only exceptions to this rule are those faculty in short-term phased out retirement program or the senate representative from the Emeritus College.
Action
Amend Article II.A.1
Add h. “Only full time members of the Academic Assembly (1.0 FTE), faculty in a phased retirement program, or the Emeritus College representative are eligible to serve as senators”
Amend Article II.B.
Add 4. “Only full time members of the Academic Assembly (1.0 FTE), faculty in a phased retirement program, or the Emeritus College senator are eligible to serve as senate officers.”
Amend Bylaw I.B.2.
Add a new second sentence (after the introductory sentence “A grievant . . . “ Grievance Policy for Academic Professionals”): “Only full time members of the Academic Assembly (1.0 FTE) or faculty in a phased retirement program are eligible to serve as members of the university grievance committees.”
