Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee

Date of First Reading: November 27, 2023

Date of Second Reading: January 29, 2024

Title of Motion: Request from the College of Health Solutions– for the name change of an undergraduate degree – From: BS in Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship – To: BS in Applied Nutrition and Health

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: The College of Health Solutions is requesting to rename the BS in Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship to "Applied Nutrition and Health" as it is more broadly recognized and clearly conveys the applied nature of the curriculum that prepares graduates for a variety of careers in nutrition. Learners are able to choose a focus area in Community Nutrition, Food Service Operations or Pre-Dietetics to align with their goals. The current name of Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship is too narrow and does not adequately illustrate these different opportunities for those with a broader interest in nutrition for health outcomes.
