2024-49
Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee
Date of First Reading: January 29, 2024
Date of Second Reading: February 26, 2024
Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences – Computer Science and Engineering Program & the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BA in Computer Science
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The BA program in Computer Science provides the knowledge and skills to prepare students for entry-level software development positions. With less emphasis on math and theory, the program will attract a broader set of students to computing than our BS offerings and provide opportunities for students to customize their degree with other areas of interest. This program will also serve to help grow the Fulton Schools of Engineering programs at the West campus. The program will be a joint initiative with Applied Computing at the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
