Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee

Date of First Reading: January 29, 2024

Date of Second Reading: February 26, 2024

Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – Dean's Office –for the name change of a graduate degree – From: MS in Innovation and Venture Development – To: MS in Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: Program staff and faculty researched well known, and AACSB certified programs, their curriculum, their names, and ownership for competitive and best practices benchmarking. During the survey of most schools, it was found that most ranked programs and most have ‘innovation’ and ‘entrepreneurship’ in their degree title. No other program has the word ‘Venture’ in their degree title. We are an outlier and thus do not figure in any rankings. The name change is to align it with other programs. By keeping it consistent it will help with recruiting, placement, and ranking.
