Title of Motion: Request from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College – Division of Teacher Preparation – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MEd in Early Childhood Special Education
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The Early Childhood Special Education program positions our students to specialize in both early childhood education and special education to more comprehensively recognize the signs of developmental delays and disabilities to improve trajectories for all students with regard to health, language, cognitive, social and emotional development. This degree program allows teacher candidates to explore the education of birth to grade three students with and without exceptionalities and to advance their understanding of the role of family, community, collaboration and advocacy.
