Title of Motion: Request from the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation – for the establishment of a graduate certificate – Health Care Simulation

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.

Rationale: This program will prepare students for leadership roles to advance the field of health care simulation. In this program, students will use evidence-based standards of practice to develop an understanding of simulation andragogy and systems operations, then apply their learning to influence the design, operations, and evaluation of educational healthcare simulation in academic and/or practice settings that promote safe quality experiential learning strategies. The expanding use of simulation in healthcare education allows for the creation of technology-enhanced environments replicating real patient experiences with life-like high-fidelity computer manikins or standardized patients across the continuum of care. This program will allow students to learn and work with their peers, faculty and leaders from multiple disciplines, including healthcare, sociology, technology, the arts and public policy.
