Title of Motion: Request from Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions – School of Public Affairs – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – AS in Emergency Management

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision. 

Rationale: Designed through a partnership between ASU and the US Naval Community College, the Associate of Science in Emergency Management will allow enlisted personnel access to ASU’s robust learning technology, student support and quality curriculum designed by ASU faculty.

Taught by one of the leading schools in the nation for emergency management and homeland security, the AS in Emergency Management will provide students with the theories, components and concepts of effective emergency management, and the intersections between public policy and leadership development. Students will learn about risk mitigation and management, disaster prevention, and emergency response strategies with direct application to military and naval careers.
