Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – Engineering Programs, The Polytechnic School – for the establishment of a graduate degree – PhD in Clean Energy Systems
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: This interdisciplinary program offers a unique opportunity to address the world's most pressing energy challenges by focusing on sustainable, renewable and efficient energy solutions. The PhD students will engage in advanced studies that combine engineering, environmental science and policy to create systems that reduce carbon footprints, enhance energy efficiency and promote global sustainability. With access to state-of-the-art laboratories, industry partnerships, and expert faculty, students may complete coursework in the following, solar photovoltaics, hydrogen, energy storage technologies, power electronics and connected and automated vehicles.
