Date of First Reading: September 8, 2025
Date of Second Reading: October 6, 2025
Title of Motion: Request from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts – The Design School – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MS in Immersive Experience Design
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The MS in Immersive Experience Design is a transdisciplinary graduate program focused on the design of immersive experiences that integrate physical space, virtual environments, real-time systems, and emerging technologies. Students learn to create interactive environments and spatial narratives that span extended reality (XR), digital twins, simulation, responsive installations, and data-driven design. The curriculum emphasizes the composition and aesthetics of immersive environments, programmatic and spatial design in both built and virtual contexts, and the modeling and simulation of spaces and objects in real-time and animated 3D environments.
