Title of Motion: Request from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering – School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence – for the establishment of a graduate degree – PhD in Artificial Intelligence
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The PhD in Artificial Intelligence program will prepare students to conduct original research and advance knowledge in the field of AI. Students will acquire specialized knowledge and abilities in research methods in artificial intelligence encompassing advanced techniques for autonomous decision-making, perception, reasoning, statistical learning and embodied intelligence. They will gain the competencies required to innovate new technologies in these domains, identify deficiencies in existing solutions, propose novel strategies and algorithms, and critically assess them to create innovative solutions that enhance knowledge and methodologies in artificial intelligence.
