Title of Motion: Request from Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MA in Journalism

 

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

 

Rationale: Students will acquire advanced skills in reporting, writing and multimedia storytelling; apply standards of media law and ethics in professional settings; create professional-level (and often award-winning) news content that reaches millions of viewers/readers; and develop leadership capacity that positions graduates to strategize sustainable newsrooms and steer the industry forward. Graduates emerge ready to create news content in any medium (video, audio, digital), for any media market (local, national, international), covering breaking news, features, enterprise stories and more.
