Title of Motion: Request from Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MA in Science Communication
Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.
Rationale: The MA in Science Communication equips students to become expert communicators, translating scientific research into meaningful public engagement. Students will partner with researchers and institutions within and beyond ASU to translate scientific discovery and thought leadership into fact-based multimedia, preparing them for careers as media creators, strategists and analysts in news organizations, universities and research institutions, government agencies, museums, non-profit organizations, corporations (in fields like biotech and pharmaceuticals), and educational institutions.
