Title of Motion: Request from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences – for the establishment of a graduate degree – MS in Applied Statistics and Data Science

Action Requested: This curricular proposal has received all college, school, unit and university administrative approvals, and is being presented to the Senate for review and voting decision.   

Rationale: This Applied Statistics and Data Science degree includes training in machine learning approaches but also provides a strong foundation in applied statistics. The rigorous background this degree provides will ensure that graduates are prepared for further developments in this evolving field as new algorithms and technologies arise.
