What unit do you represent?

The Polytechnic School, Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering

How many years have you served on the Senate?

This is my second year

How many years have you been employed at ASU?  What other institutions have you taught at before coming to ASU?

I have been employed by ASU for almost 10 years. I have not taught at any other institutions.

What is your research and/or creative activities focus?

My research focus encompasses four general areas in the field of environmental engineering and management: Environmental Implications and Applications of Nanomaterials; Water quality and treatment; Solid and Hazardous Waste Management; and Environmental Emergency Management.

Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate? 

To better understand the management dynamics at a university level and facilitate cross-pollination and communication with faculty from other units.

Describe what you have learned during your time on the Senate

During my time on the senate, I was able to better understand the vision of the university president, the existing and future financial models, and the challenges that may hinder the growth of the university in its pursuit to become a globally recognized leader in higher education.

What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish.

I have served, and still serving on the Facilities and Services Committee. I hope that my engagement in this committee will help promote development of more advanced research and teaching facilities and services.

What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating themselves for a position on the Senate?

It is a fulfilling experience and a good platform that allows communication with colleagues from different disciplines.
