What unit do you represent?  

LeRoy Eyring Center for Solid State Science

How many years have you served on the Senate?

This is the third year of my third term on the Senate.

How many years have you been employed at ASU?  What other institutions have you taught at before coming to ASU?  

I have been at ASU for 27 years. Before ASU I worked for Marquette University.

What is your research and/or creative activities focus?  

Surface analysis and thin film deposition.

Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate? 

Membership on the Senate allows faculty and APs to participate in the administration of ASU through shared governance.

Describe what you have learned during your time on the Senate. 

The Senate provides a voice for faculty and APs. It is a way to express concerns and seek solutions for issues that arise at the university.

What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish.  

I have served on the Committee on Committees and the University Services and Facilities committee.

What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating themselves for a position on the Senate?

I recommend service on the Senate to my colleagues. They will gain insight into ASU’s governance and may be able to influence the path ASU follows.
