California State University, Sacramento & University of Northern Iowa

Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate?
To understand the processes and structure of shared governance, participate in matters associated with academic policy, and to take the opportunity of representing my unit.
Describe what you have learned during your time in the Senate.
My time in the Senate helped build transdisciplinary connections, broaden my knowledge about how ASU operates, and gave me a bigger picture.
What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish?
Research and Creative Activities Committee, Student Faculty Policy Committee, and General Studies Council. I learnt about policies associated with academic integrity, student code of conduct, student activities associated with academic progress, and policies that can help forge strong student-faculty-administration relationships. Participation in the Research and Creative Activities Committee helped me to understand different tools that can help identify current HPC (High Performance Computing) environment needs (and potential needs) at ASU to improve the system. I learnt of the different ways the committee works closely with the Office of Knowledge and Enterprise Development (OKED). I will like to participate in the Personnel Committee in the future.
What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating himself or herself for a position in the Senate?
This is an excellent platform to get involved and be informed at the university level. This position helps to stay updated on recent regulations and issues associated with shared governance. It offers a bigger picture of how ASU operates at the university level and it is a wonderful opportunity to represent your unit.
