Elsie G. Moore Smith, age 72, of Tempe, Arizona passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022. Elsie was born November 16, 1949.
Dr. Moore-Smith was an accomplished professor receiving her BA from Elmhurst College, her MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. She was affiliated with Arizona State University, November 1981 - February 2022.
With regards to her interests and hobbies, she loved nothing more than completing projects by herself around the house. Her favorite vacation spot was her childhood home in Virginia, which is affectionately known as Winnie’s Hill. She was truly unique by her strong presence, but she made people feel welcome and valued at the same time no matter the situation. She was the type of person who everyone felt comfortable going to. She was equal parts kindness and intelligence. Beloved mother of Arthur Smith, Aaron Smith, and Allen Smith. Dear sister of Mary “Cookie” Neal, Joan Moore, Harold Moore and Barbara Moore.
A visitation for Dr. Moore-Smith will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. A graveside service will occur Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery.
