What unit do you represent? I represent the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences.
How many years have you served in the Senate? This is my 4th year (2nd term).
How many years have you been employed at ASU? This is my 20th year at ASU.
What other institutions have you taught at before coming to ASU? I have taught at Rochester Community College, NY and Rochester Institute of Technology.
What is your research and/or creative activities focus? I have a service component as an Associate Teaching Professor and enjoy working with others in a service capacity. I am a lead member of the newly established Peer Teaching Evaluation Committee at the school of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. Also, I promoted entrepreneurship club for my students.
Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate? Getting involved in the university senate is a way to make a difference while gaining valuable skills and experience. Whether you are looking to improve campus life, help your peers, or expand your professional network, the senate offers a unique platform for making an impact.
Describe what you have learned (or hope to learn) during your time in the Senate? In summary, my time in the university senate has been an invaluable learning experience. It not only enhanced my understanding of university operations but also provided me with practical skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. The lessons I learned during my time in the senate have shaped me into a more capable and confident individual, ready to contribute meaningfully to my community and beyond.
What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish? Overall, participating in the Personnel Committee at the university senate is a highly impactful and rewarding experience. It offers opportunities to shape key decisions affecting the university community, improve working conditions for faculty and staff, contribute to institutional growth, and develop important leadership skills. Whether you're interested in human resources, higher education governance, or simply want to make a positive impact at your university, this committee provides an excellent platform for making meaningful contributions.
What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating himself or herself for a position in the University Senate? If you are ready to take on a leadership role, eager to learn more about university governance, and passionate about making a positive impact, I strongly encourage you to accept a nomination. It’s a challenging but rewarding experience that will shape you as a leader and help you develop skills that will serve you throughout your life. Plus, you’ll be part of something much bigger contributing to the advancement of the entire university community.
If you choose to step forward, know that it’s a role that comes with responsibility and dedication. But it’s also an incredible opportunity to grow, learn, and make a lasting difference. I believe you have what it takes to make a positive impact, and I look forward to seeing what you can accomplish.
