What unit do you represent? 

School of Social Work, Watts College

How many years have you served in the Senate?

This is my second year

How many years have you been employed at ASU?

I am starting my fifth academic year

What other institutions have you taught at before coming to ASU?

I was previously an Assistant Professor at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

What is your research and/or creative activities focus? 

I study the impact of global environmental changes on Indigenous Peoples’ health equity and culture and feasibility of land-based healing community-based adaptation.

Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate?

I wanted to interact with faculty and staff from other units and campuses.

Describe what you have learned (or hope to learn) during your time in the Senate?

I am learning how ASU policies enforce the university’s mission and charter.

What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish

Last year I was assigned to the Faculty and Student Policies subcommittee, and I hope to continue that service again.

What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating himself or herself for a position in the University Senate?

Representing your unit in the Senate is an important service opportunity. This has been a wonderful experience to meet individuals from across different colleges, campuses and positions. This is also an excellent opportunity to understand ASU functioning.
