Senator Spotlight April 2024

YOUR NAME: Brad Vogus

What unit do you represent?  ASU Library

How many years have you served in the Senate? 5 years

How many years have you been employed at ASU? Over 20 years

What other institutions have you taught at before coming to ASU? I was a librarian/archivist at Indiana University-Kokomo.

What is your research and/or creative activities focus?  I am a social science librarian at the Fletcher Library on the West Valley campus. I am also the coordinator of the Federal Depository Library program. I cover political science and government information for all the campuses, and I work with all faculty on the West Valley campus.

Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate? I thought serving in the University Senate would be an interesting and rewarding experience, and it has been!

Describe what you have learned (or hope to learn) during your time in the Senate? I have learned how important it is to share information and issues disscussed in the Senate with my colleagues, including academic professionals (librarians and archivist) and library staff.

What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish?  I am currently on the Personnel Committee. I am the only academic professional on that committee, so I make sure that our issues are being heard.

What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating himself or herself for a position in the University Senate? You will learn so much about the University by serving. From my service as a Senator, I have a better understanding of the issues that impact the University on a whole and the ASU Library.
