YOUR NAME: Alex Trimble Young

What unit do you represent?  Barrett, the Honors College

How many years have you served in the Senate? This is my third year.

How many years have you been employed at ASU? I was hired in 2017.

What other institutions have you taught at before coming to ASU? Amherst College (Postdoctoral Research Fellow) and The University of Southern California (Teaching Postdoctoral Fellow)

What is your research and/or creative activities focus?  I study the impact of settler colonial history on the contemporary literature and culture of the United States, especially the US West.

Why did you decide to get involved with the Senate? I got involved to advocate for my fellow NTE faculty members at Barrett and NTE faculty at the university more broadly.

Describe what you have learned (or hope to learn) during your time in the Senate? I developed a better sense of how to shape big-picture decision making at ASU.

What committees have you participated in, or would like to participate in and what were you able to (or hope to) accomplish?  I have not yet served on a committee, though not for lack of trying!  

What would you say to your peers who might be considering accepting a nomination or nominating himself or herself for a position in the University Senate?

The position is what you make it. Ask lots of questions and take a proactive role to make a difference.
