Title of Motion: Request from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences -  for the establishment of an undergraduate degree –  BS in Actuarial Sciences

Action Requested: The Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee recommends University Senate approval of a proposal submitted by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – School of
Mathematical and Statistical Sciences – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree –
BS in Actuarial Sciences

Rationale: An Actuary is a person that works for insurance or investment companies and is primarily responsible for determining rates and benefits for insurance policies and retirement instruments.  The Actuarial Sciences program combines traditional math and statistical courses with a solid foundation in business including economics and finance.  This program provides students with preparation for professional actuarial credentialing exams that will set them apart from graduates of many other actuarial science programs.
