Motion Introduced by: Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee, Eduardo Pagan, Chair
Date of First Reading: November 4, 2013
Date of Second Reading: December 2, 2013
Title of Motion: Request from the College of Health Solutions–School of the Science of Health Care Delivery - for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Public Health
Action Requested: The Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee recommends University Senate approval of a proposal submitted by the College of Health Solutions – School of the Science of Health Care Delivery – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BS in Public Health
Rationale: Faced with the growing population, aging demographic profile and long-standing shortage of qualified personnel, the need for Public Health Practitioners in the U.S. continues to expand. The need for a qualified Public Health workforce is even greater on a global level. The BS in Public Health program will offer cross-disciplinary training and the flexibility to select a minor in Global Health or other related programs.
This program will educate and train individuals who will be qualified to work as entry level public health practitioners and/or further their education at the graduate level.
