Title of Motion: Request from the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences – School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BA in Social and Cultural Analysis
Action Requested: The Curriculum and Academic Programs Committee recommends University Senate approval of a proposal submitted by the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences – School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies – for the establishment of an undergraduate degree – BA in Social and Cultural Analysis
Rationale: The Program in Social and Cultural Analysis combines interdisciplinary topics and methods to critically analyze relationships among individuals, groups, institutions, governments, economies, and environments. Our intellectual core draws from theories, methods, and pedagogics in American studies, women's studies, and ethnic studies, while engaging complementary fields of literature, history, sociology, oral history, sexuality, queer studies, social justice, transnational, and cultural studies.
